Activities & Achievements

Current Activities

As cultural activities and educational tours helps in overall development of a child, we plan our activities accordingly. We focus is on nutritional assessment and support to children, training of parents regarding health & hygienic practices, locally available nutritious food and general health care issues pertaining to children.

Training

We organized training on income generation activities to assist women, in improving their socio-economic condition. Private trainers as well as Small Industries Service Institute (SISI), Government of India office in West Bengal spearheaded these training sessions. Women participants through these endeavors received three months training on ‘making of jute products’, ‘copper neclace’ and ‘teracota art piece. The initiative was financially supported by SPARSHA – a sister organization of AASHA.

Marketing

AASHA was contracted by SPARSHA to supply conference bags made of jute during the ‘4th West Bengal Sexual Health Conference’ in 2003. A core group of six women of AASHA who successfully supplied the items to the conference were subsequently asked to supply folders made of colored jute by the ‘Sundarban Development Board’, Mayuhk Bhawan, Kolkata – a division under the Government of West Bengal. Opportunity also came on the way of these women to attend Industrial Trade fair-2003. The ‘National Institute for Research on Jute & allied Fibers Technology’ provided raw jute free of cost in 2003 to enable them to develop and display jute products in the aforementioned fair.
